It's Tax Time!

Not that you need to be reminded or anything, but it's that time of year again! As April 15 rapidly approaches, the Internal Revenue Service has got you covered.

Contrary to popular belief, the IRS is not out to ruin your life. In fact, when it comes to tax time, they provide you with pretty much everything you need to file easily and accurately. Can't make it out to pick up your forms? Print them right from IRS.gov. Want to get your refund (lucky you!) more quickly? File electronically from links found right on their site. And they're way ahead of you with potential questions. Most likely anything you can come up with, they've already answered and listed on the site. They're pretty omniscient that way.

But this year's big, exciting tax news is the Economic Stimulus Payment. Check out the Payment Calculator on IRS.gov to see if you're eligible and how much you should expect to receive. And while we're talking about receiving money, stop by the "Where's My Refund" section of the site to see how far along your return is and when the IRS will be sending out your check. Hooray!

So whether you're a student, a farmer, self-employed, retired, active in the military, a parent or whatever, the IRS wants to help you out when you're looking to file your taxes (after all, neat and precise returns are in their best interest).

Before you try to go it alone, stop by IRS.gov and see what they have to offer. But hurry, it's crunch time!

Hundreds of completely humorous, interesting, random and just plain bizarre lists

The List Universe brings you the best of the best, from across the globe. The Top 10 Accidental Discoveries (penicillin and potato chips rank high), The Top 10 Bizarre Death-Related Things You Can Buy Online (human skulls and DIY embalming kits included), The Top 10 Action Movie Face-offs (Go Highlander!) — it's an addicting collection of some of the most interesting things you'll ever find. But they're not all weird. You can find some quite practical lists, as well. Like The Top 10 Steps to Making a Perfect Roast Chicken or The Top 10 Exercises to Build the Body of a Greek God (we printed a few copies of that one).

Of course, their Top Ten might not read quite the same as yours. So let them know! There are discussion threads under every list for you to voice your opinion and a separate section of the site with forums, where you can suggest a topic for a new list or just talk about anything with your fellow Listers.

Who knows, The List Universe may even turn out to be one of your Top Ten Most Visited Sites. Visit The List Universe

Boys Level 5 Junior Olympics Rochester Classic

My oldest son earned 2nd Place All-Around at the Rochester Classic Invitational on February 17th. He placed 1st on Pommel Horse, Rings, and Vault and 2nd place on Floor, Parallel Bars, and High Bar. He brought home a medal and 7 trophies. He even let his brother and sister check out and hold his trophies when he brought them home (see the end of the video). Enjoy!

Free Games - Win Prizes!!

Gamesville.com is the premiere purveyor of fine, free online games and is famous for its uncanny ability to waste people's time for hours on end.

What kind of games do they offer? Free games such as bingo, cards, puzzles, board games, and more. You can even create your own stylish Gamesville Avatar to capture your unique essence.

But what really sets them apart from other game sites is that they specialize in online game shows, not just online games.

What's the difference?

Most game sites focus on games you play by yourself or games you play against a couple other people. While Gamesville has those kinds of games too (they especially proud of their Spades game and Hot Streak Solitaire), they excel at massively multiplayer games where it's you versus hundreds—or even thousands—of people all competing, in real time, to get the highest score or win the cash jackpot.

Gamesville game shows, such as Three-Eyed Bingo and Magic 21, run on a continuous basis, 24 hours a day, and last for a specific amount of time. Between one game ending and the next game starting, there is a brief intermission (aka, the Gamesville Emercial®) which features commercials — that is, advertisements that the sponsors have paid to display to you. These commercials help pay for the games and prizes that they offer.

In a very real way, their games are online — and interactive — game shows, operating on a similar kind of model to our TV counterparts. Except, instead of you watching a handful of contestants vie for a prize, you actually get to compete and win!

It's a little unusual-but given that they are in their twelfth year of being in business they must be doing something right. So go play today! Visit Gamesville

Trade things you have for things you want

Classic quid pro quo — trade things you have for things you want. With swaptree's unique "multiple-way trade algorithms," as soon as you post an item for exchange, you'll see hundreds of things you could get for it.

Unlike other online trading communities, on swaptree you don't have to spend time searching for and negotiating trades or dealing with a points system. Join for free, list what you have (either by ISBN or UPC number or by clicking a "Have It" button if you see your item featured on the site) and add things to your "Items I Want" list (the same way). swaptree will instantly alert you when you have a valid trade with a "Get Now" button next to something you wanted. Click it and you're set. The only thing you pay for is shipping your item (usually under $2.50 via USPS).

So let's say you're ready to part ways with your Planet Earth DVDs. Add it to your "Items I Have" list and you'll immediately find there are about 25,000 items on swaptree you could get for it. Sweet! Choose an item you want and click the "Get Now" button. Ship your item and you're good to go: your trade is on its way. Visit swaptree

“Babyproofing Your Marriage”

The “Babyproofers” Stacie, Cathy, and Julia are a humorous bunch of moms (and wives) that not only give helpful tips, but they also share from their own experiences and experiences of others. Many stories and viewpoints from both the male and female perspective are given. The overall goal of this book is to unite husband and wives through the early childhood years while providing an understanding of what the other spouse needs and wants out of the marriage.

The authors go through lengthy descriptions of how children change marriage, and individuals. Examples of men not helping in the house and childrearing yet yearn for more physical contact with their wife predominate the better part of this book. For those that are experiencing this situation (and by the sound of it from this book – the majority of married couples) there are numerous tips to help both parties get what they need out of the other spouse.

While reading this book, I realized very early in my reading that my marriage is unique and not at all like the partners described in this book. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband who probably does more than his share around the house and has always helped with the children. Whether it is feeding, changing a diaper, washing clothes, cleaning up bodily excretions, reading a story, or sitting next to a toddler while he makes potty, my loving husband is always there for me and my children.

Although this book was not written for my particular situation, it would be extremely helpful for many. This book is well written with plenty of humor along the way. My advice would be to read this book while expecting your baby. Once your baby arrives, there is very little free time to read during the first few months. In addition, this book would be a wonderful shower gift for any expectant couple.

Ready to Make a Purchase? Check out Its Review...

Before making a purchase, most people head to the Net to see what the reviews have to say. But besides being time-consuming, this can also be pretty unreliable. So who's reviewing the reviews?

When you're researching a product, what do you do when one website gives it five stars and another only gives it two? How do you know which sources are dependable? Have you read all the analyses? These are the questions the experts at ConsumerSearch.com keep in mind when putting together the ultimate review (so you don't have to).

But how is ConsumerSearch different from all the other sites out there? They review the reviews. They start by scouring the Web for the best, most trustworthy product reviews, analyze their selections and identify the best picks. And they give you four ways to help make the best decision possible. Check out the "Fast Answers" first to see a listing of the top-rated products in a category. Then head to the "Full Story," where you'll find a complete analysis of who the reviewers are and what they have to say. Finally, you can get a complete list of all the reviews reviewed, with ranking and descriptions of each one (and a link to where it originally appeared) as well as sites where you can buy each product. And with review categories ranging from Electronics to Lawn & Garden to Kitchen & Food, you're bound to find the information you're looking for.

Don't spend all your time searching the Web for reviews — just head straight to the site that reviews them all. Visit ConsumerSearch

Looking for the Perfect Charity?

There are a lot of charities out there. Between similar names, vague mission statements and the sheer number of them, how can you pick the one right for you?

CharityNavigator.org saves potential donors from the tedious research associated with finding a responsible, efficient charity, or worse — donating to one where a hefty percentage of your money goes straight to a CEO's salary.

Charity Navigator works with a team of professional analysts who have scoured over tens of thousands of non-profits' financial documents. After each charity's evaluation (there are over 5,000 on the site), it's given an unbiased, numbers-based rating, so you can make sure your donation won't go to waste.

And they must be doing something right. In 2007, over 4 million donors visited CharityNavigator.org to check out opinion pieces by the site's experts, donation tips, top 10 (and bottom 10) lists and, of course, find their perfect charitable match.

Keep track of your Family Travels and Adventures

GoneGoing is an evolution of the travel blog. It is named after those who have Gone somewhere and want to write about it, and those who are Going somewhere and want to read about it.

Have you ever looked at a travel blog website and thought "there's a wealth of information in there, but no easy way to find what I'm interested in?" GoneGoing was created to solve that problem.

Imagine you're going on holiday. Maybe you don't know where you want to go, but you want somewhere with extreme sports activities, and also some culture. You want somewhere that people aged 25-30 would recommend, and you're going in November.

With GoneGoing you can quickly specify all this and more, and matching travel blog articles are dynamically updated on a map to show only what you're interested in.

Once you've found an area of the world that interests you, zoom in to further filter the results. Finally, click on individual articles to read about the authors' experiences and use their combined wisdom to plan your perfect trip.

The exploring interface is the main feature of our site; however the best interface in the world is still worthless without content. Therefore we need travel-wise (or not so wise) people to help contribute to our site so we can grow into an exciting new community.

Your travel blog can contain stories, photos and videos, and you will be able to receive feedback and questions through the discussion boards automatically attached to your articles. Integrated RSS feeds even allow your friends and family to keep track of your adventures. And best of all, it's completely free. Visit GoneGoing

Hungry?

All you have to do is go to GrubHub.com, type in your address, and up pops a list of all of the restaurants that deliver to you. On a BBQ-only diet? No problem. Late night sushi craving? Bring it on.

Just try us.
  • Search by cuisine, coupons, and other neat stuff
  • Check out menus
  • Order online or by phone
  • Read and write reviews (and share them with your friends!)
  • Store your favorites in your virtual menu drawer
  • Love that last meal you got? 1 click reorders the same meal!

Best of all, it is and always will be 100% FREE!

Currently in Chicago, San Francisco and Boston, GrubHub.com is growing crazy fast — but we weren't always this big. GrubHub.com began back in 2004 by two guys — Matt and Mike — who often found themselves working late, hungry, and in need of delivery. They turned to the Internet for a list of Chicago restaurants that would deliver, but the internet failed them. Matt looked at Mike, Mike looked at Matt, Matt said "Grub", and Mike said "Hub". With that, GrubHub.com was born.

So the next time your mother-in-law is in town and you can't take another bite of meatloaf — hop on to GrubHub.com and impress her with your ordering skills. And let her write the review, moms love that stuff. Visit GrubHub

Writers - Connect with Publishers

Someone you know has written a book—maybe you have yourself. You think the hard work's behind you; the unfortunate truth is that the hard work has just begun! Now you need to find an editor who's interested in the kind of book you've written, get his attention, make the connection that will let him see your work.

The traditional model involves researching interested editors, searching books that were published a year ago or websites that might never have been updated. When you find an editor you think might be interested, you package up your manuscript and put it in the mail. Then you wait. And you wait. It could be months before you hear a thing.

And what you hear after those months often begins with "Sorry."

Helpful coaching from first readers

Creative Byline employs first readers, who have expertise in writing and publishing. They'll read your children's picture book or a synopsis, outline, and first three chapters of a longer work. And they'll give you (or your writing friend!) useful feedback that you can use to polish your work so you know that it's ready to be reviewed by an editor, who's a professional critic!

Target the editors you want

Editors from participating publishers (Dutton Children's Books, St. Martin's Press, Tor Forge, and more to come) tell Creative Byline—and participating writers—what they're looking for right now. Writers don't have to rely on outdated information. They don't have to take a shot in the dark and wait months to see if they've hit anything. Writers can search the Creative Byline editors to see who's interested in exactly what they've got.

Guaranteed connection to the editor you choose

When your project is ready, you can submit it to the editor you've chosen. Creative Byline guarantees that the project hasn't been reviewed within three weeks, you can choose another editor.

Discounted submissions for you and your friends

We're offering a one-time 50 percent discount on submissions for those of you who are writers—and Agents' friends who are writers. Use the "tell your friends" button to share the wealth! Here's all you do:

  1. Become a member (free during our beta period). It's quick!
  2. Upload a manuscript.
  3. During the checkout process enter KY5E28 in the promotion code box.

Heat - Eat - Review

Frozen food can be quite delicious. It can also be disastrous. So don't take your chances. Before you head to the freezer section, head to HeatEatReview for the scoop on all meals microwaveable.

Most people consider themselves lucky if they have enough time to eat during the day, let alone prepare a meal from scratch. So it's not unusual for those swamped with work and other responsibilities to look to the freezer aisle for a quick cure for their hunger pangs. But little time doesn't mean little taste. Or does it? That's what the people HeatEatReview aim to find out.

Start off by reading the five star items (if you're tight on time, it's better to know what to buy than what to avoid), then work your way down. The site has product reviews for over 75 companies, from appetizers to four course meals to desserts, so finding something you'll like won't be hard. Each review includes information about ease of preparation, level of deliciousness and the item's "bang for the buck" — helpful tidbits when you're short on time and money. And they're all pretty cheeky, so you'll have fun reading about something before you enjoy eating it.

But if the ratings on HeatEatReview are any indication, there are a lot of frozen foods out there that are tough to swallow. So check out this site before getting experimental in the freezer aisle — your taste buds will thank you. Visit HeatEatReview

Looking for a Way to Help Others?

On Kiva.org, you can help the world's working poor reach economic independence. But you don't just give your money away — you loan it. Because on this site, your generosity gets repaid.

Kiva.org (a non-profit organization) is home to more than 130 entrepreneurs from the developing world looking to start up or fund a business. And whether it's raising cattle, repairing cars or selling clothes, there's one thing they all have in common: they need your help. But they're not looking for handouts — just a 6-12 month loan to get them on their feet. Which you can help with safely and easily right through Kiva.org.

The lending process is simple. Find a person you'd like to loan to, then do so using your credit card through PayPal. Kiva then transfers the funds to their local microfinance partners, who distribute the money to each business. Periodically, the partner collects repayments and provides detailed updates on how your loan is helping. Once your loan is repaid, you can either withdraw the funds or re-loan to someone new!

Kiva.org also supplies information about each of their field partners, including delinquency and default rates, the number of entrepreneurs they're sponsoring and their risk rating, so you can have a better idea of how your loan will be repaid.

Just think of it as a temporary donation. Visit Kiva

Check Out This Cool New Clothing Line

At muzeclothing.com you'll discover a clothing brand called Muze, created by people who believe the right application of a classic movie line is a great way to get your point across. Tax time comes every year, a perfect time to break out "I can't have my wages garnisheed" (Fletch). Your buddy smashes a 290 yard drive on the golf course...you can't help but say, "Big hitter the Lama...long" from Caddyshack. Your boss badgering you about a task you've been assigned to might result in "Harry...I took care of It" (Dumb and Dumber). And what woman out there, after a long day at the office (or a bad date) hasn't said to herself... "I want the fairy-tale", a classic line from Pretty Woman?

We've created a clothing line that taps into the culture of those who relate movie lines to real life scenarios, a practice we call "Muzing". Each one of our shirts is created by starting with a popular "Muzing", and designing great graphics around the line to be printed on the highest quality tees we can find. Muze is a lifestyle brand for those who feel that a classic movie line and a great t-shirt are two of life's finer pleasures and to have them combined into a one-of-a-kind garment means we are in fact, "The ambassadors of Quan" (Jerry Maguire).

We've even created a maternity line for the expectant mother who wants everybody to "Say hello to my little friend" (Scarface). "Muzing" and maternity clothing go together like pickles and ice cream and by wearing one of our tee's, new moms everywhere can let the world know that "this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" (Casablanca).

Come check out our collection at muzeclothing.com and see how we've put our knowledge of movies and love of apparel to use. You'll find a clothing company that strives to unite the sub-culture of those who practice the art of Muzing. When wearing one of our shirts, be prepared to discover just how many people think like you and offer to buy the shirt off your back. See you at the site, and "Stay Classy" (Anchorman).

Free Children's Nutrition Website - Games, learning

Nourishinteractive.com is devoted to helping our children become nutritionally aware. Our kids are bombarded everyday with ads promoting empty calories and high sugar foods. We want to empower children to make healthier choices. Nourish Interactive is a website that provides parents and children with a variety of tools to learn the key elements of nutrition. We designed the website so that every tool and article has a parents' version and a child's version. This way parents and children can work together to make nutrition a key part of their everyday lives.

Nutrition is extremely important for our children's development and long-term health. Unfortunately, there are many indications that kids are not eating the nutritionally balanced meals their bodies need. We need to start teaching children about the importance of nutrition at a young age before they have formed their habits. We can't rely on the schools because they are too busy with reading, writing and math. We know the internet is a growing part of everyone's lives, so why not take advantage of some of that time and have children learning about nutrition.

Nourish Interactive.com offers two key areas:

1. Free features:
  • A valuable resource for children's nutrition
  • Free interactive Tools that parents can use to assess their child's current nutritional status and take steps to improve it
  • Free games for children to play that help promote positive messages about nutrition and drive healthier choices
  • New topics monthly for both parents and kids
2. Free Sign Up for the Online Nutrition Game:
  • In order to access the complete game, you will need to create a free account. This account is required so that we can track the child's test scores and send parent/teachers progress reports.
  • The online game, "Chef Solus and the Food Pyramid Adventure" game is available both in English and Spanish
  • Progress reports are available for each level of the game that the child has completed. These progress reports provide an easy way for parents to review the key concepts their child has just learned.
  • Progress reports are available in English and Spanish.
  • A colorful certificate is provided for each level completed that can be to printed and posted. It is customized with the child's name.
  • We also provide activity suggestions that are simple and fun for the whole family.

With Nourish Interactive and the main character, Chef Solus, children will get the idea that nutrition is fun.

Join Chef Solus and Nourish Interactive on a fun nutritional adventure as we work together to build a new generation of nutritionally-minded children.

Use TripLife to Network with Professionals when you Travel

Fun, free, and easy, TripLife.com is the comprehensive travel networking tool that helps you connect with likeminded people by facilitating face-to-face meetings before, during and after your trip. That way, you can forge new contacts and explore new opportunities that can give your professional or personal life a boost.

Think about all the lulls you have while traveling for business (and sometimes for pleasure, for that matter). Being on the road can lead to wasted time in airports, on planes and at your destination. Why not make the most of that time and turn connecting flights into more business connections? Instead of dining alone in Atlanta after your meeting, you can eat with someone who winds up becoming a new client. And why end up being stuck next to some chatty Cathy on the plane when you can pre-select to sit next to the influential person who might be able to help you land your dream job?

TripLife is as easy as:
1. Create your profile
2. Find valuable prospects (and let them find you)
3. Start connecting
4. Keep up with your network

With TripLife, you can share your travel itinerary to keep in touch with colleagues and see where they're planning to travel as well. You can even narrow your searches by industry, activities and common interests. Want to know if a movie buff in his 30's is attending the same electronics convention in Las Vegas? No problem. It's all about establishing a professional presence online, and using the places you go to make sure you're really going places.
And TripLife really works! Two of our members connected before a trip to a computer convention, sat next to each other on the plane, and are now in business together.

So don't wait around for a chance encounter. Make your own luck with TripLife where travelers really click. Visit TripLife

Improve your Brain

Unfortunately, science has shown that around age 30, all of our brains are going to start (or have already started!) slowing down. But there's hope! Train your brain and fight back with daily games and exercises from Lumosity.com.

It may seem hard to believe that games could help improve your cognitive abilities, but it's true — well, for the scientifically designed games and exercises found on Lumosity, at least. They're created by some of the country's leading scientists in cognitive psychology, bioinformatics and neuroscience and are made specifically to develop your memory, processing speed, attention and cognitive control.

Lumosity users have experienced:
Clearer and quicker thinking
Improved memory for names, numbers, directions, etc. Increased alertness and awareness
Elevated mood
Better concentration at work or while driving

I know what you're thinking — "Processing speed? Cognitive control? Just how boring are these games?" But that's the best part. They're fun (and, I'll admit, slightly addicting). Monster Garden, Moneycomb, Lost in Migration, Chalkboard Challenge — visit Lumosity.com to check them all out and sign up for a free 14-day trial. Your brain will thank you later.

Zootoo

Your place to go for all things pet. Meet with fellow pet lovers, read the latest pet news, learn about new pet products and services and earn points good towards helping numerous pet-friendly initiatives.

The founders of Zootoo.com created the site with one goal in mind: "allow people to make the most informed decisions for their pets using information provided by real pet lovers like them." In other words, it's for pet lovers, by pet lovers.

Use Zootoo to share about products and services. Have an amazing experience at a local groomer? Spread the word so other owners can, too. Did your animal have a bad reaction to a commercial food? Let others know what to watch out for.

You can also connect with other pet lovers and use pictures and videos to show off your best friends. The more active you are on the site (writing reviews, posting comments, uploading videos), the more points you earn. Not only do points improve your member status and showoff your pet expertise, but they can be donated to animal-friendly projects, too, like a shelter makeover. So you're helping yourself and the animals you love while you're at it.

Do your pets — and pets across the country — a big favor: share and learn on Zootoo.com.
